Hairline recession, thinning hair on the top of the head, and even bald spots: approximately one in every two men in this country suffers from hair loss. This so-called androgenetic alopecia is usually genetically determined. However, various dermatological and internal diseases or medications can also be the cause.
For years, there has been a solution for men who refuse to accept hair loss and do not want to use medication: hair transplantation. It restores your hair to its former fullness but in a natural way - and permanently! There are around 120,000 hairs on our heads, and we lose between 100 and 120 of them every day; if more falls out, the hair becomes thinner and thinner, and bald spots may even form. Hair loss can have very different causes; the most common form of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, or male-pattern baldness. This type of hair loss affects about one in every two men in Western countries, but women can also suffer from it.
The male sex hormone testosterone plays a key role in the development of androgenetic hair loss under the influence of a specific enzyme called dihydrotestosterone. It causes hair to thin gradually in very specific areas (such as the forehead, temples, or crown) and eventually fall out.
Fortunately, dihydrotestosterone cannot apply its unwanted effects to all hair roots: the hair on the back of the head is resistant to the hormone. This also explains why hair taken from the back of the head and transplanted to bald areas is rarely lost later.
The aim of treatment is to reduce the bald areas on the scalp to make them less noticeable or to cover them with hair. There are various methods available, with the most popular being free hair transplantation using your own hair.
The density of hair at the front of the head is particularly important for a good cosmetic result because it immediately catches the viewer's attention. Before hair transplantation, the doctor determines the new hairline on the forehead, which requires a lot of sensitivity.
Micrografts contain only 1 - 2 hair follicles, while minigrafts contain 3 - 5 hair follicles. These micrografts or minigrafts are now implanted into the bald areas that have already been made painless by local anesthesia. To do this, the surgeon uses the slit or hole technique. Erbium-Yag laser or CO2 laser is also used to support this. Small scabs form in the transplantation area and fall off by themselves after a few days. After hair transplantation, the patient is monitored lying down for 24 hours. You will be discharged from the clinic the next day with detailed information and instructions. Decongestants and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed during the first week after transplantation.
The hair can be washed just 3 days after transplantation, and the patient can be socially acceptable again after 7 days. The newly transplanted hair may initially fall out after the healing phase, but continuous hair growth begins two to three months later. If you cannot achieve the desired hair density in a single "session," you can have another transplantation after 3 - 6 months.
